Building One Healthy Learner at a Time: The Healthy SABER Journey Begins

Monrovia, Liberia – October 21, 2025

Every child deserves the chance to learn, but no child can learn well on an empty stomach or in an unsafe environment.

That belief is driving the Healthy SABER National Workshop, launched this week by the Ministry of Education in partnership with the World Food Programme and the World Bank. This important exercise brings together key government and development partners to assess how school-based health and nutrition programs can better support learning and wellbeing for Liberia’s children. Over two days, national teams will explore how schools can do more than teach, how they can nourish, protect, and empower every learner.

Minister of Education Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah emphasized that “a nourished, healthy, and safe child learns faster and stays in school longer.”

The Healthy SABER process represents a national commitment to link learning with wellbeing, ensuring that every child has access to nutrition, clean water, and safety in school.

Together, we are shaping a Liberia where every child grows, learns, and thrives, one healthy learner at a time.
