A Transformative Leap Towards Inclusion: Launch of Liberia’s DEI Policy in Higher Education
Monrovia, Liberia- October 30, 2024
Today, the National Commission for Higher Education, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), officially launched the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Policy in Higher Education at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.
This significant initiative aims to transform Liberia’s education system by fostering an inclusive environment where all students and educators can thrive, regardless of their backgrounds, identities, or abilities.
During the launch event, Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, Minister of Education, emphasized the critical importance of cultivating a learning atmosphere that prioritizes diversity and inclusion.
She highlighted that educational institutions should serve as dynamic communities enriched by diverse voices and perspectives, which enhance academic discourse and broaden worldviews.
The DEI Policy outlines essential practices, including staff development in inclusive teaching methods, unbiased instructional assessments, and comprehensive support for students with disabilities.
Additionally, it implements stringent measures against gender-based violence and discrimination while advocating for gender equity in hiring and leadership roles.
This initiative represents a strong commitment to inclusive education in Liberia, paving the way for a brighter and more equitable future for all learners and educators.
