African Development Bank Strengthens Collaboration with Liberia’s Ministry of Education to Boost STEM and TVET Programs

The African Development Bank has initiated a pivotal collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. This meeting aimed to foster partnerships and enhance support for Liberia’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) programs.
During the meeting, the Executive Director of the African Development Bank, Honorable Rufus Darkotey, delivered a significant address highlighting the importance of bolstering these critical educational programs. Honorable Darkotey emphasized that STEM and TVET are essential to Liberia’s development agenda and stressed the need to integrate practical learning experiences into these initiatives.
He further underscored the necessity of adopting intentional approaches, fostering creativity, and encouraging innovation to enhance the effectiveness of these programs. Honorable Darkotey urged the Liberian Government to explore domestic resource mobilization and leverage private sector investment, particularly focusing on small and medium enterprises, to ensure sustainable funding for these initiatives.
Additionally, Honorable Darkotey highlighted the need for substantial investments in key institutions such as the Liberia Revenue Authority and the transportation sector, noting that such investments are vital for strengthening revenue mobilization efforts for the government. He also emphasized the importance of revolutionizing the agricultural sector to positively impact the livelihoods of local farmers.
High-ranking government officials, including the Ministers of Education, Gender, Children, and Social Protection, and Youth and Sports, commended the African Development Bank for its significant contributions to supporting STEM and TVET programs in Liberia. Their appreciation underscored the Bank’s efforts to enhance educational opportunities and foster skill development among the nation’s youth, highlighting the importance of such initiatives for the country’s overall development.
This engagement marks a crucial step in reinforcing the collaboration between the African Development Bank and the Liberian government, aimed at advancing education and skill development to drive the nation’s growth and prosperity.
