Building a Brighter Future: Advancing Girls’ Education for Liberia’s Sustainable Growth
Monrovia, Liberia – November 6, 2024 – A landmark meeting was convened at the Corina Hotel in Monrovia to discuss the successful implementation of Liberia’s National Policy on Girls’ Education (NPGE).
The high-level gathering brought together key stakeholders, including government officials, international partners, and civil society representatives, all united by a shared commitment to improving educational opportunities for girls across Liberia.
The meeting featured a comprehensive presentation on the NPGE, detailing its alignment with the Education Sector Plan (ESP) and its vital role in addressing persistent barriers such as early marriage, inadequate resources, unsafe learning environments, and deeply ingrained cultural norms.
In her special Remarks, Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, Minister of Education, highlighted the transformative power of girls’ education, emphasizing that it is essential not only to Liberia’s economic development but also to the advancement of health, gender equality, and social inclusion. Dr. Jallah outlined the government’s multifaceted strategy, which includes the NPGE, the broader ESP, and the IRSIE project, all designed to overcome the obstacles that hinder girls from accessing quality education.
International partners, including the World Bank, UNICEF, Save the Children, and ESSA, pledged their unwavering support through financial backing and technical expertise to ensure the successful implementation of the policy.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to a sustainable and adaptable implementation plan, emphasizing the importance of continuous monitoring, accountability, and strong collaboration between government entities, international donors, civil society, and the private sector.
Participants expressed confidence that with this unified approach, Liberia will advance toward a future where every girl has access to quality education, driving the nation toward greater equity, prosperity, and social progress.
