Deputy Minister of Education Urges BWI Graduates to Embrace Mentorship and Key Qualities for National Development

Over the weekend, the Ministry of Education participated actively in the 73rd Post-Secondary Professional Programs commencement convocation at Booker Washington Institute (BWI).

This event highlighted the institution’s enduring commitment to educational excellence and professional development.

Held on the BWI campus in Kakata, Margibi County, the ceremony was framed around the theme: “Increasing and Strengthening Partnership to Unearth BWI’s Full Potential Towards the Centenary; Strategic Posture.”

The theme underscores the importance of collaboration in advancing the institution’s capabilities as it nears its centennial celebrations, aiming to maximize educational outcomes through robust partnerships.

During the convocation, over 400 graduates were awarded diplomas across various disciplines, including Agriculture, Auto Mechanics, Business Education, Domestic Science, Electricity, Electronics, Machinery, and Information Communication Technology/Media Center.

In his remarks, Honorable Atty. Nyekeh Forkpa, Deputy Minister of Education for Administration, emphasized BWI’s vital role in shaping Liberia’s workforce through Technology and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

He praised the institution’s efforts in equipping students with the skills necessary to meet the demands of the job market, thereby contributing to national economic development.

Minister Forkpa also expressed gratitude to the various stakeholders in the TVET sector, including teachers, parents, and development partners, for their ongoing support in advancing vocational education in Liberia.

He called for broader collaboration, suggesting the inclusion of additional TVET institutions to further enhance the sector’s impact.

Concluding his remarks, the Deputy Minister urged the graduates to embody qualities such as discipline and courage and seek mentorship as they navigate their professional journeys.

He encouraged the industrious citizens of Margibi County to create job opportunities for the graduates, ensuring they contribute meaningfully to Liberia’s industrial transformation.

The event was attended by key representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Margibi Legislative Caucus, Honorable Ivan K. Jones, Representative for District #2, Margibi County, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and various development partners and education stakeholders.
