Remarks by Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, Minister of Education, Republic of Liberia

Delivered at the Booker Washington Institute (BWI), Kakata, Margibi County on the occasion of the 95th Anniversary under the theme “REBRANDING BWI @95”

Dr. Nancy T. Freeman, Principal & Executive Officer of BWI,

Members of the Board of Governors of the Booker Washington Institute,

Government Officials, Distinguished Guests, Faculty, Students, and Fellow Citizens,

I am delighted and honored to join you today for the momentous 95th Founders’ Day ceremony of the Booker T. Washington Institute in Kakata, Margibi County.

This year’s celebration marks a significant milestone with the inauguration of the institution’s first female principal in its illustrious 95-year history. Dr. Nancy T. Freeman’s appointment as Principal and Executive Officer is not only a personal achievement but also a testament to the progress we are making towards gender diversity and empowerment within the education sector.

For nearly a century, BWI has been a cornerstone of educational excellence in Liberia, nurturing generations of students and shaping the country’s intellectual landscape. This remarkable achievement underscores the government’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse leadership, which enriches our educational institutions and creates greater opportunities for all.

His Excellency, President Boakai, has set a commendable example through BWI, demonstrating that diversity in leadership enhances our educational framework and promotes the development of our society. This occasion heralds a new chapter of progress and inclusivity, inspiring young people, particularly women, across Liberia to pursue leadership roles in academia and beyond.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Nancy T. Freeman and the entire BWI community on this historic achievement. Together, we celebrate this momentous occasion and look forward to the continued success and rebranding of the Booker Washington Institute.

Thank you.
