Liberia Reinforces Commitment to Teacher Education for National Development

Monrovia, Liberia – February 24, 2025

The Ministry of Education (MoE) of Liberia has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing teacher education, recognizing its vital role in the country’s long-term development.

During a recent induction ceremony, Atty. Nyekeh Forkpah, Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Education, underscored the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen teacher training nationwide.

In his address, Minister Forkpah emphasized the importance of investing in education infrastructure, curriculum development, and continuous professional development for educators.

He commended the leadership of the Zorzor Rural Teacher Training Institute (ZRTTI) for its proactive initiatives in these areas.

Minister Forkpah stressed that upgrading teacher training programs and enhancing faculty capacity are fundamental to ensuring quality education for Liberia’s students, thus paving the way for sustainable national development.

The newly inducted Director of ZRTTI, Mr. Abe Kortu Kerkulah, shared his vision for the institution, focusing on the modernization of the curriculum to meet contemporary educational standards.

He also highlighted the necessity of providing ongoing professional development opportunities for faculty to improve teaching effectiveness and overall educational quality.

While acknowledging ZRTTI’s potential, Mr. Kerkulah pointed out key challenges, including understaffing in critical areas such as security and maintenance.

He called on the government and lawmakers from Lofa, Bong, and Nimba Counties for increased funding and support for teacher training programs.

The induction ceremony, officiated by the Deputy Minister for Instruction, Hon. Amos Armah Fully, also introduced the newly launched “B” certificate program.

Hon. Armah Fully emphasized the significance of teamwork, professional coordination, and a steadfast commitment to excellence, ensuring that all Liberians have access to quality education.
