Liberia’s Ministry of Education and UNICEF Forge Stronger Partnership to Transform Education

(March 16, 2025, Monrovia, Liberia)

The Ministry of Education of Liberia, under the visionary leadership of Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, is strengthening its collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to drive transformative reforms across the education sector.

As part of this strategic alliance, UNICEF has been appointed as the coordinating agency, working alongside the Ministry through the Local Education Group (LEG) to implement bold and innovative initiatives that will reshape education in Liberia.

This partnership reflects the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to expanding access, enhancing quality, and ensuring equity in education for every Liberian child.

With education positioned as a national priority, the Ministry continues to lead efforts that foster inclusive learning environments, ensuring that no child—especially the most vulnerable—is left behind.

A key initiative under this reform agenda is the Back to My Classroom campaign, which aims to encourage school attendance, improve retention, and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all students.

Speaking on this milestone collaboration, Andy Brooks, UNICEF Representative in Liberia, reaffirmed UNICEF’s dedication to supporting the Ministry in overcoming systemic challenges in the education sector. He emphasized that adolescent girls remain among the most affected groups, facing significant barriers to education.

However, under Dr. Jallah’s dynamic leadership, UNICEF and its development partners have pledged to prioritize gender-responsive interventions to ensure that every girl in Liberia has the opportunity to thrive academically.

“Liberia’s education sector is at a defining moment,” Brooks noted.

“To turn our commitments into meaningful impact, we must embrace comprehensive reforms, innovative solutions, and strengthened coordination among all stakeholders.”

Through this reinforced collaboration, the Ministry of Education and UNICEF will work together to eliminate barriers to learning, advocate for inclusive education policies, and engage communities in championing educational rights.

By aligning efforts with the Liberia Education Sector Plan, this strategic approach will accelerate progress, enhance learning outcomes, and create a resilient, student-centered education system that empowers every child with knowledge and opportunity

As this transformative agenda unfolds, the Ministry of Education remains dedicated, determined, and inspired to lead Liberia’s education sector towards excellence, inclusivity, and sustainability.

This collaboration with UNICEF marks a significant step toward ensuring that every child, regardless of their circumstances, has access to a brighter future through quality education.
