Minister of Education Launches the 2024/2025 Annual School Census in Liberia
Monrovia, Liberia – November 1, 2024
The Minister of Education, Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, has officially launched the Annual School Census for the 2024/2025 academic year, emphasizing the urgent need for comprehensive data collection following a two-year gap.
Scheduled to run from October 28 to December 15, 2024, this census will include all educational institutions in Liberia—public, private, faith-based, and community schools. Dr. Jallah reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to the 2011 Education Reform Act and the Educational Sector Plan (ESP), highlighting that the data collected will be vital for strategic planning and ensuring quality education for every child.
This year’s census marks a significant expansion by incorporating data from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions. Dr. Samuel Toe, Deputy Minister for Planning, Research, and Development, underscored that including TVET aligns with a holistic educational approach and acknowledges the crucial role of vocational training in empowering youth.
With an estimated budget of $1.2 million allocated for essential equipment, staff training, and data collection personnel, the initiative will commence with a pilot program in Montserrado County, leading to a phased implementation across all counties.
Dr. Jallah expressed her deep gratitude to partners, including USAID-ESSA, UNICEF, the European Union, the World Bank, and Rising Academy, for their invaluable support. She urged parents, guardians, and school administrators to actively participate in this initiative, asserting that collaboration is essential to fostering a more effective and inclusive educational framework in Liberia.
