May 5–6, 2025 | Bellacasa Hotels, Monrovia, Liberia
Issued: May 12, 2025 | Monrovia, Liberia

The Ministry of Education of the Republic of Liberia, in collaboration with the World Bank, successfully convened a two-day technical consultative workshop from May 5–6, 2025, at the Bellacasa Hotels in Monrovia.
The workshop focused on the comprehensive review and refinement of the National English Language Arts (ELA) Curriculum for kindergarten through sixth grade.
The high-level engagement brought together curriculum developers, educators, assessment experts, and development partners to align ELA standards with international best practices and Liberia’s educational priorities. Discussions emphasized improving literacy outcomes across reading, writing, speaking, and listening components; ensuring coherence, inclusivity, and rigor across grade levels; and identifying content gaps for enhancement.
Facilitated by a technical consultant, the sessions promoted a data-driven and student-centered approach to curriculum design.
Participants also developed strategic recommendations for effective implementation, teacher professional development, and resource planning.
This initiative marks a significant step in the Ministry’s continued efforts to strengthen foundational literacy and build a resilient, inclusive, and globally competitive education system.
