Ministry of Education Commemorates International Women’s Day with a Call to “Accelerate Action” for Gender Equality

Monrovia, Liberia – March 7, 2025

The Ministry of Education today proudly joined the global observance of International Women’s Day at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, underscoring its commitment to accelerating progress toward gender equality in Liberia.

This year’s celebration is themed “Accelerate Action,” a powerful call to drive immediate and tangible advancements in women’s empowerment across key sectors such as education, employment, and leadership.

The theme seeks to inspire bold and collective efforts from government institutions, organizations, and individuals to dismantle barriers and foster an environment where women and girls have equal opportunities to excel.

The event was spearheaded by the Minister of Education, Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, a visionary leader and ardent advocate for gender equality.

Dr. Jallah, widely recognized for her expertise, innovative leadership, and unwavering dedication, embodies the spirit of empowerment that International Women’s Day seeks to highlight.

“Today, we not only celebrate the remarkable contributions of women across Liberia but also reaffirm our unwavering commitment to fostering a society where every woman and girl has access to quality education, employment opportunities, and leadership roles,” stated Dr. Jallah. “Now is the time to act decisively and ensure that gender equality is not just an aspiration but a lived reality.”

Adding a vibrant cultural dimension to the celebration, the women of the Ministry of Education proudly showcased their heritage by donning traditional lappa attire, symbolizing unity, resilience, and the rich cultural legacy of Liberian women.

Their collective display of solidarity underscored the invaluable role women continue to play in shaping the nation’s future.

Beyond the celebrations, the Ministry of Education used the occasion to highlight actionable pathways for accelerating gender equality, particularly within the education sector.

The Ministry calls upon all stakeholders—including government officials, non-governmental organizations, private sector leaders, and community members—to unite in advancing the cause of women’s empowerment.

Together, by taking deliberate and strategic action, Liberia can build a future where women and girls are equally represented in leadership, have unrestricted access to quality education, and play a transformative role in national development.

Let us stand together to “Accelerate Action” for a more just and equitable society.
