Ministry of Education Completes Transition of Management for Modern Senior Secondary School in Margibi County to International Consolidated Contractors

Monrovia,

Liberia – January 30, 2025

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has officially concluded the transition of management for the modern senior secondary school in Margibi County to the International Consolidated Contractors (ICC).

This marks a significant milestone in the completion of this vital educational infrastructure project, as ICC now takes full responsibility for its construction and ensures the realization of its objectives.

The school, which had previously been left in a state of disrepair by a former contractor that failed to meet its contractual obligations and timelines, had suffered considerable delays.

However, under the management of ICC, the project is now poised for completion according to the highest standards, providing students in Margibi County with a modern educational environment.

The formal handover ceremony took place in Kakata, Margibi County, where Mr. Abraham Kiazulu, Project Coordinator for the IRISE initiative, presented a comprehensive overview of the ongoing construction efforts.

The IRISE initiative, aimed at enhancing educational access across Liberia, is responsible for expanding 25 junior high schools across 25 electoral districts in ten counties.

This strategic initiative seeks to improve the availability of educational opportunities for senior secondary students across the country.

Mr. Kiazulu outlined that the modern senior secondary school will, once completed, feature 15 classrooms, along with essential facilities such as a library, laboratory, and recreation center. These facilities are integral in creating an optimal learning environment for students.

The original project timeline, which was set in 2022, included a 14-month construction period, with an anticipated completion date of December 2023.

However, due to previous delays, the project’s completion had been pushed back.

During the ceremony, Mr. Adam Yaba, Director of the Division of Physical Environment at the Ministry of Education, officially handed over the responsibility for the project to ICC.

The handover was accepted by Mr. Robert M. Zaza, the County Education Officer for Margibi County, who will oversee the project’s execution on behalf of the Ministry.

Both Mr. Yaba and Mr. Zaza emphasized the paramount importance of maintaining the highest quality standards in the construction of the school.

They stressed that the completed facility must meet the Ministry’s rigorous expectations, ensuring that the project’s outcome is both sustainable and beneficial for the community.

Mr. B. Lewis Kaine, the Development Superintendent of Margibi County, also addressed the ceremony, expressing his appreciation to the Government of Liberia and the Ministry of Education for their commitment to improving the region’s educational infrastructure.

He called upon ICC to prioritize the employment of local residents from Margibi County throughout the construction process, noting that this would contribute to both the success of the project and local economic development.

In response, Mr. Daniel Mhanna, Country Project Director for ICC, extended his thanks to the Government and people of Liberia for their warm reception and continued support.

He assured the Ministry of Education that ICC would execute the project in accordance with international best practices and that the school would be completed within the agreed-upon timeline.
