Ministry of Education Concludes Pioneering Two-Day Leadership Orientation for Education Officers Across Liberia

Monrovia, Liberia – January 14, 2025

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has successfully concluded a landmark two-day leadership orientation aimed at empowering Education Officers from all 16 educational counties with the essential skills and knowledge to drive transformation in Liberia’s education sector.

This important initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening the capacity of education leaders nationwide, positioning them to make a lasting impact on the development and progress of the country’s educational landscape.

The orientation, organized by the Ministry’s various divisions, provided a comprehensive and forward-thinking curriculum focused on critical areas vital to advancing Liberia’s education system. Topics covered included the School Management System, data quality improvement, financial stewardship, teacher licensing, Early Childhood Education, STEM education, and the importance of monitoring and evaluation.

Participants also gained insights into the importance of adhering to Ministry policies, implementing internal controls, and ensuring rigorous audit compliance, which are fundamental to fostering accountability and transparency across the education sector.

In her remarks, Minister of Education, Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, commended the participants for their active engagement and commitment throughout the workshop. She emphasized the essential role of collective leadership in addressing the challenges within Liberia’s education system and stressed that the recruitment of Education Officers was based solely on merit, free from any political influence. Minister Jallah encouraged the officers to lead with integrity, excellence, and collaboration, fostering a united front for meaningful and sustainable educational reform.

The Minister also highlighted key priorities for the Ministry, including equitable distribution of teaching roles, improving transparency and accountability, enhancing learning outcomes, increasing student enrollment, and promoting inclusive education, particularly for students with disabilities.

This transformative two-day workshop was made possible through the collaborative efforts of various MoE divisions, including Teacher Education, TVET, Planning, and Fiscal Affairs, ensuring a well-rounded approach to the professional development of Liberia’s educational leaders.
