Ministry of Education Concludes Three-Week Digital WAEC Tutorial Pilot Project Across Five Counties

Date: May 12, 2025, Monrovia, Liberia

The Ministry of Education, through the Bureau of Basic and Secondary Education, is concluding a transformative three-week Digital WAEC Tutorial Pilot Project aimed at boosting student performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Launched on April 23, 2025, and scheduled to conclude on May 14, 2025, the project is being implemented in partnership with the Center for Integrated Solutions (CIS).

It introduces an innovative digital learning platform known as the WASSCE Lab, which integrates online learning, AI-generated content, and modern teaching aids to supplement traditional classroom instruction.

Through this pilot, students in public schools have been receiving tutorials via smartphones, guided by trained facilitators using projectors and other digital tools to enhance interactivity.

The program is designed to ensure accessibility, allowing students to engage with learning materials anytime and anywhere.

The project is currently being piloted in five counties:

Grand Bassa (786 students),

Lofa (641 students),

Grand Gedeh (316 students),

Grand Cape Mount (281 students)

and two districts in Montserrado County—Careyburg and Todee (478 students total).

Speaking on the initiative, Hon. Abba G. Karnga, Assistant Minister for Basic and Secondary Education, emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to innovation in education.

“This program not only reflects our drive for academic excellence but also affirms our dedication to integrating digital solutions into Liberia’s education system,” he noted.

As the Ministry embraces technology to support learning outcomes, it remains steadfast in ensuring that every Liberian student has the tools and opportunities to excel.

The Digital WAEC Tutorial Project is a bold step forward in aligning national education strategies with global best practices.

The Ministry looks forward to a thorough evaluation of the pilot’s impact and to celebrating the progress of participating students as they prepare for success in the WASSCE and beyond.
