Ministry of Education Convenes Pivotal Meeting for the Youth Rising Project Steering Committee
Monrovia, Liberia – February 8, 2025

The Ministry of Education recently convened a key meeting of the Youth Rising Project Steering Committee to assess the progress and challenges within Liberia’s Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector.
This important session was focused on evaluating the status of the Youth Rising Project, a European Union-funded initiative led by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in partnership with the Ministries of Education and Youth and Sports.
The Youth Rising Project aims to enhance Liberia’s TVET capacity by providing high-quality, inclusive, and gender-responsive vocational training.

It specifically targets marginalized groups, including youth in underserved regions and individuals with disabilities, with the goal of improving access, relevance, and equity within the TVET sector.
During the meeting, Dr. Samuel Toe, Deputy Minister of Planning, Research, and Development, emphasized the Ministry’s pivotal role in taking full ownership of the project.
He called for enhanced financial transparency, urging the submission of detailed financial reports to inform decision-making Dr. Toe reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to addressing existing challenges and ensuring the successful implementation of the project.

Mr. Rogers Ndege, Project Manager, provided a comprehensive overview of the project’s accomplishments and ongoing challenges. Key successes included the improvement of technical training for educators and the acquisition of essential training equipment.
However, Mr. Ndege highlighted the need for formal measures to further strengthen TVET, such as expediting fund disbursement, enhancing program monitoring, and fostering partnerships between public and private sectors.
The meeting saw the participation of key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Financial and Development Planning, Swedish Embassy, UNIDO, the European Union, and the Youth Rising Project team.
