Ministry of Education Hosts Courtesy Visit from UNDP Resident Representative
Monrovia, Liberia – January 21, 2025

Today, the newly appointed Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to Liberia, Hon. Aliou Manadou Dia, paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Education to discuss opportunities for collaboration and funding aimed at advancing the Ministry’s educational priorities, particularly under the ARREST initiative.
During the visit, Hon. Dia reiterated UNDP’s steadfast commitment to supporting the development of Liberia’s education sector.

He underscored key areas for collaboration, including the enhancement of Information Technology (IT) training for students and the strengthening of teacher capacity—both seen as critical to improving the quality of education nationwide.
In response, Minister of Education Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah welcomed the opportunity to engage with UNDP and expressed sincere gratitude for the organization’s continued support.
She presented the Ministry’s key priorities, which include promoting girls’ education, improving professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators, advancing early-grade literacy, expanding school feeding programs, and strengthening supervision and monitoring mechanisms.
Minister Jallah also highlighted the pressing need for improved teacher housing, especially in rural areas, to enable educators to carry out their duties effectively.

She further emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to fostering an inclusive education system that ensures students with disabilities have equal access to quality education.
Minister Jallah stressed that such inclusivity benefits all students by creating a more diverse and enriching learning environment.
The visit was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Education, including members of the Senior Management Team, as well as UNDP Programme Coordinator E. Abraham Tumbey Jr.
