Ministry of Education Launches IRISE Digital Training Program to Transform Liberia’s Educational System

Kakata City, Margibi County, Liberia – January 20, 2025

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has officially launched the IRISE Digital Training Program, an innovative initiative aimed at integrating digital literacy into Liberia’s educational framework. This groundbreaking program is designed to enhance teaching and learning nationwide, positioning Liberia as a leader in the global educational landscape.

The launch event took place simultaneously at the KRTTI, WRTTI, and ZRTTI campuses in Kakata, marking a significant step toward improving educational access, quality, and equity through the strategic use of technology.

The IRISE Digital Training Program aims to equip educators with the necessary digital skills to create a dynamic and inclusive learning environment for future generations.

In his keynote address, Mr. Clifford Konah, Assistant Minister for Teacher Education, emphasized the program’s potential to transform Liberia’s educational outcomes by fostering digital proficiency. He urged educators to incorporate digital tools into their teaching practices, underscoring their crucial role in shaping the future of Liberia’s education system.

The event also featured the introduction of the IRISE Project by Hon. Nathaniel Cisco, Assistant Minister for TVET, STEM, Inclusive, and Special Education.

This initiative focuses on providing comprehensive ICT training for teachers, particularly in rural areas, ensuring that educators nationwide are prepared to deliver an inclusive and modernized education. Over 300 teachers participated in the launch, demonstrating the program’s broad appeal and commitment to equitable access to quality education.

Minister Cisco highlighted the importance of empowering teachers with digital tools to foster an inclusive education system that meets international standards. He stressed that the IRISE Project is key to building a more equitable and dynamic educational environment for all Liberians, especially in rural and underserved communities.

Madam Sorna F. Sheriff, Director of KRTTI, expressed her excitement over the strong response to the program, noting the eagerness of participants to engage with the training. She also underscored the essential role of women in ICT, recognizing their contributions to shaping Liberia’s educational landscape and promoting gender equality in the digital space.

Madam Sangay M. Freeman, Director of STEM Education, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to digital resources for all educators and students. She highlighted the transformative potential of the IRISE Digital Training Program in creating a more inclusive education system in Liberia.

The launch of the IRISE Digital Training Program marks a major milestone in the MoE’s efforts to modernize Liberia’s educational infrastructure. By equipping teachers with digital tools and skills, the MoE is laying the foundation for a future-ready education system that is globally competitive and inclusive.
