Ministry of Education Leads National Quizzing Tournament to Inspire Academic Excellence Across Liberia
( Monrovia, Liberia- December 9, 2024)
In support of the Ministry of Education’s efforts to improve student learning outcomes, the Bureau of Student Personnel Services is partnering with the Liberia Institute for Knowledge and Excellence (LIKE), led by Cllr. Phil Tarpeh Dixon, to conduct county-level competitions for high school students in four major counties of Liberia: Lofa, Bong, Nimba, and Grand Gedeh. These county events are the first phase of a nationwide quizzing competition that is expected to eventually reach every county of Liberia and culminate in national-level contests for schools and counties, subject to the availability of funding.
The quizzing tournament aims to enhance students’ learning and contribute to academic excellence by improving reading, developing memory, fostering open communication, and elevating their skills in responding and public speaking. It is worth noting that while there have been previous quizzing competitions reaching every county of Liberia, this is the first instance that even at the county level, the contest has been decentralized to permit as many students and schools as possible to be reached and inspired.
The venues in each county are: for Grand Gedeh – Zleh Town and Zwedru; for Lofa – Foya, Voinjama, and Zorzor; for Nimba – Tappita, Sanniquellie, and Ganta; and Bong – Totota and Gbarnga.
