The Honorable Minister of Education Advocates for Historical Preservation on the Global Stage
(PARIS, FRANCE- OCTOBER 16, 2024)

The Honorable Minister of Education has once again made a significant diplomatic move during the Executive Board session. This afternoon, the Minister addressed the Director-General with a poignant question:
“Liberia’s history is deeply intertwined with the legacy of slavery and emancipation. Our societies continue to be shaped by this past, and it is crucial that we fully acknowledge and understand its ongoing impact to create a more inclusive future. As UNESCO marks the 30th anniversary of the ‘Routes of Enslaved Peoples: Resistance, Liberty, Heritage’ program, what initiatives are being taken to enhance its visibility and impact?”
The Minister emphasized the importance of preserving Liberia’s historical sites, specifically aiming to elevate Providence Island as a recognized site of global memory. The ultimate goal is to secure its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, ensuring its place in the collective history of the world.
