In his keynote address, Honorable Thomas Romeo Quioh, Chairperson of the House of Representatives Committee on Education, highlighted the significant challenges Liberia faces in the education sector, particularly the barriers posed by language.

He emphasized the importance of multilingual education, recognized by UNESCO as a key tool in overcoming illiteracy and enhancing academic performance in subjects such as mathematics and science. Honorable Quioh also called for stronger teacher training programs in multilingual instruction to ensure the successful implementation of these initiatives.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Education, Honorable Clifford Konah, Assistant Minister for Teacher Education, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to advancing education through multilingual programs.

Minister Konah acknowledged the progress made in the education sector and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration with development partners to further strengthen the system.

The observance also honored individuals who have made significant contributions to Liberia’s educational development, including Madam Hawah Goll-Kotchi, Madam Mildred Dean, and Mr. Paye L. Nuhann, in recognition of their relentless efforts in combating illiteracy.
