West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Inaugurates 73rd Annual Conference in Liberia

Monrovia, Liberia – March 18, 2025

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) officially inaugurated its 73rd Annual Conference today at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, bringing together regional education stakeholders to advance academic excellence across West Africa.

In her opening remarks, Minister of Education, Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, emphasized the significance of this milestone, noting that Liberia was originally set to host the conference in 2015, but the Ebola outbreak led to its postponement. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding educational access, highlighting the full payment of WASSCE fees as a testament to this dedication under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s leadership.

Minister Jallah stressed the importance of exam integrity, digital literacy, and innovation in national assessments while announcing an extended three-month WAEC registration period to ease student access.

Delivering the keynote address, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai commended the conference as a transformative opportunity for Liberia’s education sector. He emphasized the role of transparency, accountability, and collaboration in shaping a stronger academic system and urged WAEC to foster inclusive education for students with disabilities. President Boakai reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring quality education for all, calling for a unified national effort to support student success.

The 73rd WAEC Annual Conference serves as a crucial platform for regional collaboration and educational reform. The event also featured Academic Excellence Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to education.
