Liberia Ignites a New Era in Education with the Leaders in Teaching (LIT) Program.

Monrovia, Liberia – October 21, 2025

The Ministry of Education has officially launched the Leaders in Teaching (LIT) Program, a bold step toward transforming the quality of secondary education across the country. The event, graced by former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, marked a major shift from expanding access to ensuring excellence and equity in learning.

Minister Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah emphasized that “access without quality cannot sustain progress,” reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to empower every learner through skilled, motivated, and well-supported teachers.

Supported by the Mastercard Foundation and implemented by the Education Development Center (EDC) in collaboration with local partners, the LIT Program will reach 9,000 teachers and 3,200 school leaders, impacting more than 830,000 students nationwide.

The initiative aligns with Liberia’s education reform priorities, anchored in equity, quality, and innovation, to build a system where every child can learn, lead, and thrive.
