In a strong affirmation of Liberia’s commitment to global education, the Ministry of Education, under the leadership of Hon. Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, celebrated a national ceremony recognizing over 90 Liberian students awarded scholarships to pursue higher education in the People’s Republic of China.

Held at the Chinese Embassy in Congo Town, the event marked a milestone in the two-decade China-Liberia educational partnership, which has provided more than 800 full scholarships and extensive training opportunities in key sectors such as health, agriculture, and technology.

Speaking on behalf of the President and people of Liberia, Minister Jallah praised the initiative as a “bridge to national transformation,” emphasizing its long-term impact on Liberia’s human capital.

“These scholarships represent more than academic excellence—they symbolize leadership, hope, and the power of partnership,” she said. “Our scholars will return prepared to strengthen Liberia through global knowledge.”

She thanked the Chinese Embassy for its enduring support and acknowledged the contributions of Liberian educators, institutions, and families.

Recipients hailed from institutions across Liberia, including Bong Community College, Tubman University, and the University of Liberia, benefiting from the Chinese Government Scholarship, the Guizhou International Scholarship (championed by Monrovia Mayor Hon. John Charuk Siafa), and the Confucius Institute.

Currently, 25 Liberian students are studying in China, with 16 more set to depart.

So far, 106 alumni have returned and are contributing meaningfully to Liberia’s development.

Chinese Ambassador Yin Cheng Wu commended the scholars and reaffirmed China’s commitment to Liberia’s educational growth.

“You are the future of Liberia. China stands ready to walk alongside you through knowledge and sustainable development,” he said.

Mayor John Charuk Siafa encouraged the scholars to rise as global leaders:

“Embrace this opportunity with integrity. Return ready to lead, serve, and inspire.”

The ceremony was attended by key national leaders whose presence underscored a unified commitment to youth empowerment and international cooperation:

Hon. Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, Minister of Education

Hon. Nathaniel F. McGill, Senator and Chair, Senate Committee on Education

Hon. John Charuk Siafa, Mayor of Monrovia

Hon. Alexander Nutah, Minister of Agriculture

Hon. Deweh E. Gray, Deputy Minister for Legal Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs

In her closing remarks, Minister Jallah reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to building a resilient and globally competitive Liberia through education.
