Liberia’s Ministry of Education Champions Data-Driven Reform Through EMIS Peer Review and National Dialogue

The Ministry of Education, led by Minister Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, has launched a major effort to strengthen Liberia’s Education Management Information System (EMIS); the backbone of data-driven decision-making in our education sector.

From September 3–5, 2025, Liberia is hosting a regional EMIS peer review and national dialogue with expert support from the African Union Commission (AU-IPED), the Global Partnership for Education (GPE KIX), and Canada’s IDRC.

Reviewers from Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia are assessing Liberia’s EMIS against African Union Norms and Standards, engaging directly with Ministry departments and partners.

Opening the event, Minister Jallah emphasized:

“This dialogue allows us to validate our self-assessment and identify practical, context-specific strategies. Our shared goal is a credible, sustainable, and nationally owned EMIS Action Plan capable of informing sound decisions at every level of the education system.”

The peer review highlights both progress and challenges, including fragmented data systems, limited funding, and the underuse of education data for policy. The National EMIS Dialogue will now co-develop a costed EMIS Improvement Plan to drive reforms in system integration, reporting, and sustainability.

This initiative shows Liberia’s strong commitment to transparent, evidence-based education reform and strengthens its role in shaping Africa’s education transformation agenda.
