Liberia’s Ministry of Education Launches 40-Day Nationwide In-Service Training for Early Childhood Educators

Kakata City, Margibi County July 29, 2025

The Ministry of Education has officially launched a transformational 40-day National In-Service Teacher Training Program aimed at strengthening Early Childhood Education (ECE) across Liberia’s 16 counties.

This strategic initiative forms a cornerstone of the Ministry’s commitment to expanding access to quality, inclusive, and child-centered education for every Liberian child.

The national launch ceremony took place at the Kakata Rural Teacher Training Institute (KRTTI) and brought together senior Ministry officials, education stakeholders, facilitators, and teacher trainees from across the country.

In his keynote address, Hon. Clifford Konah Jr., Assistant Minister for Teacher Education, underscored the transformative impact of the training.

“This is not merely a training program—it is a divine calling to serve with excellence and purpose. We are on a journey of reflection and rededication, planting seeds of hope and knowledge that will grow across generations.”

The training is currently being delivered simultaneously in all 16 education counties, with 208 early childhood educators—including 182 women and 26 men—carefully selected to participate.

Upon completion, these teachers will be deployed to newly constructed or modernized ECE schools nationwide, ensuring every Liberian child is guided by qualified, inspired, and compassionate educators.

In her remarks, Madam Sorna F. Sheriff, Director of KRTTI, commended the Ministry’s inclusive and gender-responsive approach.

“This initiative reflects the Ministry’s love and dedication to our children.

By investing in teachers, we are investing in families, communities, and the future of our nation. Let us embrace this 40-day journey with pride and purpose.”

This program is anchored in the Ministry’s Education Sector Plan, which prioritizes equity, quality, and lifelong learning. By targeting early childhood educators, the Ministry is laying a strong foundation for national development rooted in knowledge, care, and leadership.

The training equips participants with modern, evidence-based teaching methods and learner-centered strategies, enabling them to foster curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, and compassion in Liberia’s youngest learners.

This initiative affirms the Ministry of Education’s unwavering pledge to create a nation where all children—regardless of gender, background, or location—receive the quality education they rightfully deserve.
