A National Leap Toward Inclusive, Equitable, and Quality Education

The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Education and with support from the World Bank under the Improving Results in Secondary Education (IRISE) Project, has commissioned two newly constructed, state-of-the-art senior secondary schools in Gbarnga, Bong County and Ganta City, Nimba County.

Each facility, valued at $1.6 million, underscores the government’s commitment to quality education and national development.

Gbarnga, Bong County – A Model of Educational Excellence

In Gbarnga, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai officially dedicated a modern senior secondary school equipped with furnished classrooms, solar-powered energy, science and computer labs, gender-sensitive WASH facilities, and inclusive learning spaces.

Calling it “a symbol of equity, progress, and national renewal,” President Boakai reaffirmed his administration’s focus on human capital development and community ownership of public education assets.

Minister of Education Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah described the school as a national benchmark, emphasizing merit-based admissions and preference for disadvantaged students in alignment with Pillar Four of the ARREST Agenda.

She urged stakeholders to protect and sustain the facility.

Senator Prince K. Moye applauded the fulfillment of a long-promised project—the first of its kind in the county.

World Bank Country Representative Madam Georgia Wallen praised the school as a milestone under the IRISE Project, highlighting nationwide textbook distribution, improved teacher quality, safer school environments, and the deployment of female counselors since 2019.

Ganta, Nimba County – A Legacy of Hope and Opportunity

Later that day in Ganta, Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung commissioned another $1.6 million senior secondary school, welcomed by Superintendent Kou Meapeh Gono, who hailed the facility as a legacy of dignity and promise.

The school features fully furnished classrooms, science and computer labs, WASH facilities, administrative offices, a stocked library, and a multipurpose hall.

Vice President Koung emphasized the government’s resolve to bridge educational gaps, declaring: “This school signals that Liberia is ready to educate its future—fairly, equally, and excellently.”

A Unified Vision for National Transformation

The commissioning of these two world-class schools reflects Liberia’s bold and unified commitment to inclusive, equitable, and quality education.

They stand as enduring investments in Liberia’s greatest asset—its people.

Both ceremonies concluded with guided tours and student-led cultural presentations, celebrating a renewed national spirit for learning.
