Yesterday in Lofa County, the Ministry of Education broke ground for the expansion of Barkedu Junior Public School and Sarkonedu Junior Public School in District Four, advancing one of our eight national education reform priorities: strengthening public school infrastructure.

For years, students in these communities have faced barriers that go beyond overcrowding, including long travel distances, limited grade transition options, and learning environments that made it difficult to stay in school and progress.

This investment, financed by the Government of Liberia through the Public Sector Investment Project (PSIP), is designed to change that reality.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Education Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah emphasized that infrastructure is foundational to education reform, noting that learning outcomes cannot improve without spaces that support teaching and learning.

She called on communities to protect the facilities and work alongside government to ensure their effective use.

By expanding these schools, the Ministry is strengthening enrollment, retention, teacher deployment, and the delivery of reforms already underway, ensuring that opportunity reaches learners where they live.
