Assurance issued by the Ministry of Education

Monrovia, Liberia  –  In an effort to complete the academic year 2018/2019, the Ministry of Education is encouraging school administrators and proprietors to comply with all regulations set forth including adherence to timeline of the academic calendar which indicates that academic period for 2018/2019 runs from September 3, 2018, to July 19, 2019.

Following rumors of closures school amid pronouncement of peaceful protest by some Liberians under the banner, Council of Patriots, the Minister, Prof. D. Ansu Sonii, Sr. affirms that all schools will remain open for instructional activities as this in no way should hinder the academic activity of the Liberian child.

Meanwhile, disturbing news reaching the Ministry of Education alludes that some schools are planning to close on an early date for the academic year, inconsistent to the National Academic Calendar; the Ministry is calling on those to adhere to the official closing date. A school must ensure that the prescribed curriculum is completed.  

The Ministry echoes WAEC informing students and the general public that the West African Senior Secondary Certification Examinations results will be released on July 24, 2019. Therefore, schools are mandated to not perform any graduation ceremony until the release of said results, hence, only students who successfully pass the WASSCE shall be allowed to participate in graduation ceremony. The Ministry also wants to remind all school administrators and authorities to observe the ban on parade for Gala-day program. Additionally, Gala-day program should be last for not more than two school days. Schools violating and found parading through the major streets and obstructing the free flow of traffic will be penalized.
