The 107th celebration of the National Decoration Day, held by the Ministry of Education, on Wednesday March 8, 2023, at the Providence Baptist Church, under the Theme: A Vital Decision from the Text: Joshua 24:16.
Background: It’s befitting that a day be set aside to celebrate the memory of those blessed dead who lived and died in the interest of their country, thereby keeping alive their deeds and invaluable contributions made to society and the State for onward march to progress, the Legislature of the Republic of Liberia, realizing that the important events in history of our Nation should be consistently kept in the minds of citizens and youth of our land to inspire them to larger measures of Service and Patriotism did by an Act approved on October 24,1916, declared the second Wednesday in March each year to be known as ” DECORATION DAY” and observed as a National Holiday throughout the Republic of Liberia, in recognition of our past heroes and heroines, who lived and died in the interest of their Country.
During the National Decoration day program, Statement of Eulogy was brilliantly delivered by the Superintendent/ MCSS, Hon. Isaac Saye Larkpoh zawolo, Meditation was done by Rev. Charles O.D. Diggs Adm.Pastor, Providence Baptist Church, Broad, Center & Ashmun Street, Monrovia, Liberia.
Special Remarks was made by Amb. Latim Dathong, Acting Minister of Education, Republic of Liberia, encouraging students to vote right and for their future as well as remembering the dead in a very respectable way.
For the outdoor program, the Students along with the Ministry Team and Education stakeholders march with all the 50 schools, by laying of Wreaths on Tomb of President William V. S. Tubman, the State Cenotaphs, of the Pioneers & Educators at the Centennial Pavilion on Ashmun Street, Laying of Wreaths on the Grave of President Daniel B.Warner, Camp Johnson Road & Warren Street Intersection, Laying of Wreaths on the Graves of President Joseph Jenkins Roberts & Family, Center Street and Visit the Mass Grave of President William Richard Tolbert, Jr., on Center Street Monrovia Liberia.
